Ice Casting and Experimental Mould Making Masterclass (4 days) 15th-18th May 2025

£750.00

This 4 day course will give you a unique insight into my creative process and inspirations, alongside technical teaching and demonstrations including the opportunity to experiment with my lost ice casting technique.

We will explore the fundamental qualities of standard studio materials that can enable spontaneity in the model and mould making process. We will be focusing on ephemera and a sense of movement in materials aiming to translate this into cast glass objects.

During the course you will create 3 experimental moulds and cast them into glass using direct model and mould making techniques, including one lost ice piece.

Add To Cart

The course is limited to 5 participants to ensure time for 1:1 teaching as well as small group discussions.

This course is ideal for students who either have some previous experience of kiln formed glass or experience in some plaster work or mould making. Due to it being a small group, the more technical elements can be directed to suits the individual. If you are unsure if this is for you, please get in touch.

When

15-18 May 2025

10am - 4pm each day

Where

The course takes place in my own studio in Surrey, near J6 M25. The workshop is near Blindley Heath, the nearest train station is Godstone. See address and map on contact page.

What to bring

Apron & notebook (we will also have disposable aprons available for use)

Face mask for plaster mixing, or we can provide disposable ones on the day.

All participants must wear closed toe flat shoes. I will give a short H&S Induction at the start of the course.

Please note, any students disregarding H&S information will be asked to leave the course, no refund will be given.

Materials

All basic materials and a selection of different glasses are included in the course fee. More specialised glass billets and colours can be purchased from the studio. The course covers the production of three moulds cast into glass, any additional moulds made will be charged before firing if space allows.

Collecting Work

Due to the length of kiln firing times, all work will be in the kiln at the end of the course and will need to be collected at a later date by arrangement. We can also arrange for them to be sent on to you by courier for a fee depending on the weight. We will be in touch to arrange this with you after the course has finished.

Food & Accommodation

We do not provide food or accommodation at the studio, students are asked to bring a packed lunch and arrange their own transport and any overnight stays.

We have free tea & coffee making facilities, a fridge freezer and a microwave for heating food. We will also have biscuits for tea time!

Please bear in mind the studio is in a semi rural location and there are no local shops within walking distance.

WiFi is available at the studio, however the phone signal can be intermittent at times due to the countryside location.
